Major Changes in the Forum

Hi Folks,

You've probably noticed that we've made some big changes to the Boomtown forum today. Many old unused forums have been scrapped, while some forums have been moved around a little (and yes we know the console platform threads aren't showing on the frontpages yet - that'll be fixed at some point today).

The aim of these changes is to improve the sense of community here on the forum. I feel that forums can get too fragmented and unless your topic is extremely specialised is best made in a general forum where everyone can read it and contribute.

We also wanted to gauge your opinions on various issues surrounding this forum changes.

I'm not a great fan of having separate forums for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo etc. Instead I think the better approach is for the general banter of the forum, its character and flow, to take place as much as possible in one location.

The other problem with separate forums for different platforms is that they pander to fanboyism, one of the worst infestations a forum can suffer from. In these times of multi-format games and many of us owning more than one console it seems sensible for folks to chat together in one place.

Your opinion may differ though. So please tell us whether you'd prefer to have Xbox, PC, PlayStation and Nintendo forums or you'd like to keep discussions centralised.

Another issue is whether we have a Gaming Forum and an Off Topic Forum. For now I believe we're better off with one - we've called it the Boomtown Lounge - to chat in. But if forumites' feelings are strong on the issue we'll look to changing a few things.
